Imperious All Blacks fly-half Dan Carter regained the world record for the highest points scorer in Tests in their 40-7 win over South Africa on Saturday.

The 29-year-old needed just two points to surpass the total of 1,195 held by Jonny Wilkinson going into the game. And he achieved the feat by slotting a penalty three minutes into the contest with the Springboks in Wellington.

Carter also broke Wilkinson's previous world record of 1,178 in November 2010, but the England international took the record back three months later.
