In a welcome boost for both Northampton Saints and England, loose-head Alex Corbisiero's recovery from a shoulder injury is ahead of schedule.

Corbisiero was originally touch and go to be fit in time for the Six Nations but Saints coach Jim Mallinder is expecting him to be back in action at the turn of the year. Corbisiero has sat out much of the season after injuring his shoulder ligaments against Bath at the end of September.

"He's doing really well and he will be a couple of weeks off," Mallinder told the Northampton Chronicle & Echo. "We've got to make sure his shoulder is fully repaired. He's running about now and he's looking very, very good. He's feeling mentally fresh and raring to go again. It will be great to get him back."

While Corbisiero's recovery is progressing well, he is unlikely to be fit for the East Midlands derby against Leicester on December 20. "It will probably be too soon for him," Mallinder added. "It will be a couple of weeks before he gets back."
