Cardiff Blues are confident of bringing British & Irish Lions centre Jamie Roberts back to the region on what would be a four-year deal.

Roberts will leave Racing Metro at the end of the season and is currently in the midst of a tug-of-war between the Blues and Harlequins. According to Wales Online, the Blues' offer will see Roberts recruited on a regional deal for the first year and then transferred on to a three-year dual contract, one which is part funded by the region and the Welsh Rugby Union.

"We have made Jamie a good offer and we have had very positive discussions with him and his agent," Blues chairman Peter Thomas said. "We feel that his home is back here. He is a Cardiff boy and his heart and soul is in this club. I know he would like to captain Cardiff Blues one day.

"We are very optimistic that the offer we have made will be acceptable to him. He can secure his future here to the end of his career with the Blues and Wales.

"I think we would sign him on a regional contract for the first year and after that he would go on to a national dual contract for the following three years. He could go from one World Cup to the next that way.

"From what I gather, Harlequins are our main rivals for his signature, but we are all hoping he will come back home to Cardiff Blues."
