This charming Brazilian will never be allowed to forget that he bought his way into Formula One. Formula Three was followed by two years in Formula 3000 that produced the odd flash of speed. Pedro bought his way into the Forti Corse team when it first arrived in Formula One in 1995, then moved to Ligier for 1996, and on to Arrows in 1997, where he was sometimes faster than team-mate Damon Hill and where he also pushed Mika Salo hard in 1998. Moving to Sauber in 1999, Pedro was sixth three times, but failed to score in 2000, making several driving mistakes that earned him the scorn of his rivals. His family's bid to take over the Prost team failed in 2001.
