Little Arturo made his name in sports cars before joining Ferrari in 1970. By 1972 he had put in enough promising performances to be promoted to the grand prix team mid-season. His feistiness served him well through Ferrari's nadir in 1973. It also appealed to Frank Williams, who signed Arturo in 1974. He took a couple of good points finishes, but things did not go well the following year, and he quit mid-season. He drove a works March in 1976, and ran his own private March in 1977 before setting up his own team in 1978. The car, however, was a disaster and he wound up his Formula One career having exhausted most of his funds.
