Welcome back to ESPNF1's coverage of practice for the Singapore Grand Prix. After the first session was heavily affected by loose kerbing around the Marina Bay circuit, the teams will be looking to make up for lost time

It was Lewis Hamilton who was quickest during that first session, but the interruptions caused by Heikki Kovalainen's brake fire and another loose kerb meant a lot of drivers will be still getting in to the groove around the streets. There will also be plenty of upgrades still to be evaluated up and down the pit lane in FP2

Vettel laid down a bit of a marker right at the end of the first hour too, when he set the fastest final sector of the whole session, so there's plenty more pace to come from Red Bull

The FIA has announced that the kerb at the apex of turn 14 has also been removed in between sessions. It was being looked at before FP1 and the governing body has obviously deemed it dangerous

After Kovalainen's fire earlier, it appears that the Lotus team has been busy between sessions, and he's said how grateful he is on Twitter: "Boys done great job car ready to go gonna buy them a drink later, had to change quite a lot due to fire on the front axle..."

This was the scene before FP1 when the first of the kerbs needed to be removed. It was a sight we became used to for the first half an hour of the session.

There are currently fireworks going off in the Singapore night sky. It's a great sight, I just hope it's not a distraction from another delay!

The removal of the apex kerb is quite a move. The exit kerbs are fine on a street circuit because the walls are often the track limits, but the inside of a corner is not usually tampered with

The session is underway, so we should get the full 90 minutes this time. A small train of cars head out, eager to get on with work

Alguersuari and Buemi continue to start flying laps

Tonio Liuzzi is back in the HRT in place of Karthikeyan for this session

As a sign of how much time was lost earlier, every driver has gone straight on to begin timed laps

Alonso radios in to his team to tell it that it's actually turn 13 that has seen the kerb removed, and the team confirms it on Twitter: "Actually it looks from the images that the removed kerb was at T13... Differently from what was been told to the teams..."

Webber goes quickest with a 1:49.442, but Alonso soon beats it with a 1:49.071

Kobayashi has a spin at turn eight. He was very late deciding to back out of the corner and almost hit the wall

Vettel fastest now, a 1:48.171 putting him exactly 0.9s quicker than Alonso

Just in case you need a reminder, Hamilton's headline time from FP1 was a 1:48.599

Massa clips the wall on the exit of turn 12, but doesn't damage the car

Kovalainen joins the track for his installation lap. Hamilton is the only other man not to have set a time

Rob emails in to say: "Some fundamental errors being made in Singapore authorities so far. Loose kerbs, removed kerbs and where the removed kerb was not being communicated correctly. Doesn't sound like a thoroughly organised Singapore GP so far. "

Vettel sets the three fastest sectors of the session to lower the mark to a 1:47.688

Webber now second with a 1:48.135

On borad replays show Alonso getting very close to the wall on the exit of turn 19

Vettel improves to a 1:47.375, as Button and Massa pit

The air temperature is up at 30C and humidity is 70%, which displays just how draining the heat can be for the drivers

Lotus (MyTeamLotus) on Twitter: "With 23 corners and a high-downforce set-up, the fuel consumption here is one of the highest of the whole year"

Still a big split in lap times at present. Vettel is 0.76s quicker than Webber, who in turn is almost a second faster than Alonso. Massa is 0.3s back and Button 0.4s behind him, so over 2.3s covers the top five

Petrov is pushing hard and slides the rear end out of turn 19. He's 12th quickest so far

All of these runs are taking place on soft tyres by the way, the supersofts are yet to be seen.

Leigh asks: "Do you know what Pirelli's prediction is for tyre life on the 2 compounds here? Presumably with their inherent shorter life and despite the 2010 repaving, the Pirelli compounds wear rate on the "Supersoft" compound (which has to be the quickest) will be considerably higher than seen with last years Soft "Bridgies", so 2 stops? 3 stops? 4 stops, even?"

Pirelli is expecting two and three-stop strategies due to the similarity of the track nature to Monaco and lack of high-speed corners

Hamilton is finally back out on track having lost half an hour. He was still just 0.1s off the pace in the first sector but ran wide over the kerb at turn seven and later missed the apex of turn 14 and had to back off

Kobayashi runs wide over the kerb in turn five, losing a bit of diffuser, and then bangs two wheels against the wall exiting turn 12

Hamilton now up to third, 1.5s off the pace

Problems for Paul di Resta, as Force India says: "Some issues with Paul's car. He's hopped out while we take a look. The floor will have to come off but hope to be out before end of session."

If this was qualifying, Vettel's time of 1:47.375 would give a 107% time of around 1m55s. Based on that, both HRT's, Virgin's, Trulli and Barrichello would be outside the cut off time. Barrichello is four seconds slower than his team-mate after just eight laps, though

Button has locked up in to turn 14 and gone straight on, but stopped just short of the barrier. He tries to reverse back but can't get back far enough to get away again. He says reverse isn't working over the radio and climbs out of the car

Button looks very unhappy as he walks away from the car and hitches a lift on the back of a motorbike back to the pits

The track is clear again, and we've just seen some supersoft tyres ready to go on to Mark Webber's car

Senna is on supersofts now, and on an outlap

Senna sets a personal best first sector, but he's still 0.7s slower than Vettel in sector one alone

A 1:50.241 puts Senna seventh quickest. Massa is also on the supersoft and sets the fastest first sector

Massa goes quickest, a 1:47.120, after sliding the car close to the walls in the final sector. It looked spectacular, but won't have been as quick as it could have

Kobayashi goes sixth fastest on the supersoft tyres, but he took too much kerb in turn ten and launched the car

Schumacher loses the rear end in turn three and hits the wall with the right hand side but appears to haev avoided damage. Turning right in to a left hander is not a good sign

Buemi clouts the wall exiting turn 21 and rips the front right wheel off. He comes to a safe stop on the outside of the final corner

Still under yellows. Buemi was on a flying lap on supersoft tyres and pushing hard when he made the error

Alonso and Vettel on supersoft tyres now

Alonso goes quickest with a 1:46.575, setting the fastest three sectors along the way

Alguersuari has just left the Toro Rosso garage, but seemed to be fairly upbeat. He probably wasn't too disappointed to see his team-mate hit the wall...

Vettel on his flying lap has set the fastest first sector...

And Vettel sets the quickest time with a 1:46.374, 0.2s faster than Alonso

Webber's first lap on supersoft tyres is 0.8s slower than his team-mate

Hamilton starts a lap on the option tyre, having to correct the car in to turn three and eventually backing off. He was told over the radio that the 'toggle switch' was on the wrong setting.

It's not been a smooth evening for McLaren so far, but Hamilton goes for another flying lap

Hamilton improves to third quickest with a 1:47.115. Still 0.7s off the pace though

Schumacher is two seconds slower than Vettel on supersoft tyres

Alguersuari's session is over due to an unknown mechanical issue

Based on the current times HRT looks vulnerable to the 107% rule in qualifying

Less than 20 minutes to go, and di Resta still yet to get back out on track - he's completed just five laps

Vettel and Alonso are back out to complete high fuel runs

Rosberg completely misses his braking point at turn 7 and runs wide, but there's enough space to avoid the wall

Vettel's first lap is a high 1m52s with heavy fuel, but Alonso and Massa have both pitted without completing laps. Alonso rejoins

Webber, by comparison, does a 1:53.3s lap, so over half a second slower than Vettel

Alonso matching the pace in the first two sectors, while Hamilton is 0.7s down

A 1:52.388 from Alonso, followed by a 1:53.361 from Hamilton, and a 1:52.9s time from Massa. Ferrari looking competitive based on these times, though exact fuel levels are unknown

Di Resta is back in his car but yet to leave the garage

Vettel's latest lap is a 1:52.406s, the fifth of his run, so either Ferrari has the edge on race pace or it is running less fuel

Just five minutes to go and Schumacher does a 1:55.669, which shows the different in pace over the 5km+ lap

Hamilton runs wide at the turn 10 chicane, but continues

Senna's lap time has dropped off by about 1.5s since switching to the soft tyre. With that sort of performance difference we're unlikely to see teams looking to run the prime too much in the race

Maldonado has gone straight on at turn 13. He was behind Sutil and ran wide under braking but couldn't get the car turned enough to get back to the track immediately

Paul di Resta on supersoft tyres having got back on track, and he's two seconds off the pace so far

A 1:50.345 from di Resta on his one flying lap, putting him 13th and quicker than Petrov's Renault

Sutil has to spin has car round after running down an escape road on his final lap

So the session ends with Vettel and Alonso close together on one-lap pace and Alonso definitely quicker over a long run. Hamilton looked a bit short of performance, while Button didn't get to run the supersoft tyre and ends up 10th quickest. Further down the field it wasn't a productive session for Rosberg in 15th, while HRT looks vulnerable to the 107% rule.
