Welcome back to ESPNF1's coverage of practice for the Singapore Grand Prix. After the first session was heavily affected by loose kerbing around the Marina Bay circuit, the teams will be looking to make up for lost time |

It was Lewis Hamilton who was quickest during that first session, but the interruptions caused by Heikki Kovalainen's brake fire and another loose kerb meant a lot of drivers will be still getting in to the groove around the streets. There will also be plenty of upgrades still to be evaluated up and down the pit lane in FP2 |

Vettel laid down a bit of a marker right at the end of the first hour too, when he set the fastest final sector of the whole session, so there's plenty more pace to come from Red Bull |

The FIA has announced that the kerb at the apex of turn 14 has also been removed in between sessions. It was being looked at before FP1 and the governing body has obviously deemed it dangerous |

After Kovalainen's fire earlier, it appears that the Lotus team has been busy between sessions, and he's said how grateful he is on Twitter: "Boys done great job car ready to go gonna buy them a drink later, had to change quite a lot due to fire on the front axle..." |

This was the scene before FP1 when the first of the kerbs needed to be removed. It was a sight we became used to for the first half an hour of the session.

The removal of the apex kerb is quite a move. The exit kerbs are fine on a street circuit because the walls are often the track limits, but the inside of a corner is not usually tampered with |

All of these runs are taking place on soft tyres by the way, the supersofts are yet to be seen. Leigh asks: "Do you know what Pirelli's prediction is for tyre life on the 2 compounds here? Presumably with their inherent shorter life and despite the 2010 repaving, the Pirelli compounds wear rate on the "Supersoft" compound (which has to be the quickest) will be considerably higher than seen with last years Soft "Bridgies", so 2 stops? 3 stops? 4 stops, even?" Pirelli is expecting two and three-stop strategies due to the similarity of the track nature to Monaco and lack of high-speed corners |

Hamilton is finally back out on track having lost half an hour. He was still just 0.1s off the pace in the first sector but ran wide over the kerb at turn seven and later missed the apex of turn 14 and had to back off |

If this was qualifying, Vettel's time of 1:47.375 would give a 107% time of around 1m55s. Based on that, both HRT's, Virgin's, Trulli and Barrichello would be outside the cut off time. Barrichello is four seconds slower than his team-mate after just eight laps, though |

Button has locked up in to turn 14 and gone straight on, but stopped just short of the barrier. He tries to reverse back but can't get back far enough to get away again. He says reverse isn't working over the radio and climbs out of the car |

So the session ends with Vettel and Alonso close together on one-lap pace and Alonso definitely quicker over a long run. Hamilton looked a bit short of performance, while Button didn't get to run the supersoft tyre and ends up 10th quickest. Further down the field it wasn't a productive session for Rosberg in 15th, while HRT looks vulnerable to the 107% rule.
