A data-logging problem on the Lotus E21 limited Kimi Raikkonen's track time on the first day of this week's test in Barcelona.

Raikkonen completed just 44 laps over a series of short runs on Tuesday, but still managed to set the second fastest time of the day behind pacesetter Nico Rosberg. Nevertheless, the Lotus driver explained that the team had learned little from the day's work due to the issue.

"We only did short runs because we had some problems with the data logging and we did not get any data from the car," he said. "We could not run many laps because we could not see if something was wrong or not."

Asked if he could tell from the cockpit whether the car felt better than it did at the last test at Jerez, he added: "It's the same car, but with a different circuit and different conditions so it's always going to feel a bit different. It's exactly the same car so I wouldn't say the circuit makes a big difference."

And he said he would have to wait a little longer on a proposed steering update on the car, which he has been asking for since midway through the 2012 season.

"For sure it can be improved, but it seems to take a long time," he said of the E21's steering. "Hopefully we have something coming that will make it better soon."
