Silverstone aiming to avoid 2012 repeat

Silverstone managing director Richard Phillips says the circuit is working hard to ensure there is no repeat of the 2012 problems at the British Grand Prix.

Last year's race was victim of torrential rain which saw car parks turned in to mud baths on the Friday, leading to fans being asked to stay away on Saturday to avoid further problems on Sunday. Phillips said the circuit has been putting in place measures to prevent similar problems occurring this year as well as improve the race weekend.

"We are investing significant time and money to further improve the fans' British Grand Prix experience and ensure there is no repeat of the weather-related issues that affected some fans on the Friday of last year's event," Phillips said. "With four British drivers to cheer on, the atmosphere promises to be electric."

Phillips added that he is confident last year's problems will not affect the attendance of this year's race.

"If the first two races are anything to go by, it's going to be a breath-taking season. Last year's British Grand Prix attracted an outstanding attendance of 297,000 over all three days, despite the extreme weather conditions. If the drivers maintain this level of excitement, I'm sure we will be looking at another capacity crowd at the end of June."
