Maldonado sees successful future with Williams

Pastor Maldonado is keen to remain at Williams in the future despite a disappointing start to the season with no points from eight races.

Maldonado joined the team in 2011 and endured a tricky first year in an uncompetitive car, but won the Spanish Grand Prix in his second year at the team in 2012. This season Williams has been shuffled to the back of the midfield again and Maldonado has yet to qualify in the top ten.

Nevertheless, the Venezuelan is keeping faith in the team and is confident it will bounce back in the coming years.

"For sure I really want to continue here," he said. "It's one of the best places for a young driver to be and for sure we are not happy with the results of this year. We have struggled quite a lot to improve the car and be competitive. Everyone knows and saw what we have this year so I'm not telling you something wrong.

"The team has a great future and great potential so there is no point to change. When I started to drive for Williams I saw the factory, the cars and the history of the team and it was very important for me to become a part of this team. We achieved one victory last year and I think if we achieved one we can achieve two and three and four. We just need to work hard together and the potential is there."

Williams technical department is in the process of a major reshuffle as Pat Symonds replaces Mike Coughlan as technical director over the next month. Maldonado said it would take time for the change to bed in but believes it will yield results before the end of the season.

"Now it's going to be very interesting with Pat," he said. "He's new in the team and we need some time to make everything work together. He's been very successful in the past and it's quite good. We hope to improve together, to work very hard and before the end of the season achieve something very good."
