Kimi Raikkonen says there appeared to be little difference between the elongated chassis he ran during practice for the Italian Grand Prix and the usual car.

Lotus has brought one car with a longer wheelbase to Monza which Raikkonen ran during Friday practice while Romain Grosjean retained the same E21 chassis from previous races. Having ended FP2 with an identical lap time to his team-mate, Raikkonen was asked for his impressions of the updated car but said there was little noticeable difference.

"I cannot really say much because we used only [the longer car] today," Raikkonen said. "So we have to make a decision whether we use it tomorrow but I don't think there's anything different. For sure we still have to improve the car for tomorrow but like I said it doesn't feel that different for me."

Raikkonen also said he was surprised to have been so competitive having had some issues with his car and was hopeful of closing the 0.6s gap to Sebastian Vettel in qualifying.

"The feeling wasn't so good, we had some issues for the whole day in certain places and even on both cars so I'm surprised a bit to be in that position but the gap to Sebastian is quite big. But then we've seen on many Fridays that the gap is much bigger than on Saturdays so hopefully we can improve and be a bit closer tomorrow and see where we end up."
