Sergio Perez believes there could be "tyres exploding" during the Indian Grand Prix if teams push the soft compound tyre so far.

A number of teams struggled with the soft tyres during Friday practice at the Buddh International Circuit, with drivers suffering from blistering and high levels of degradation. Having suffered a spectacular tyre failure following a heavy lock-up in Korea, Perez has warned that a repeat could be on the cards in India.

"The soft is not really lasting not even a lap," Perez said. "If you see people doing a long stint on the option you will see lock-ups and probably tyres exploding so I think they went quite aggressive with the option tyre for this weekend."

However, Perez said it is up to the teams to make sure they don't push the tyres beyond the limit.

"It's something we have to deal with. I think for most of the other teams that are in our range that we're probably fighting with it is probably the same, maybe a little bit better. But I'm quite optimistic for the weekend I have to say; I'm happy with the balance and I'm looking forward to tomorrow."
