Esteban Gutierrez is hopeful of staying at Sauber next season because the team rates him "at a good level".

With Nico Hulkenberg looking set to leave the team and Sergey Sirotkin due to join in 2014, Sauber is concerned that retaining Gutierrez alongside Sirotkin would leave it lacking experience in a year when new technical regulations take effect. However, while Gutierrez admits he may have to wait for other teams to finalise their line-ups he says he has been proving to Sauber that he is a good choice for next season and beyond.

"To be honest at the moment I think there are a lot of things happening around at different teams," Gutierrez said. "The focus has to be here on the last races of the season and obviously we'll see what's going on next.

"At the end of the day I'm doing my best, I'm doing all I can, the team knows me very well and I'm confident that the team rates me at a good level even though it has been my rookie season. Different things have happened but also the team situation has been difficult, so I think we have a good chance to build up for the future."

Asked if he was seeking other options away from Sauber, Gutierrez said it was natural to do so.

"Obviously you look to your opportunities but at the same time my goal is to stay here and build up something for the future."
