Jean-Eric Vergne has received a 20 second time penalty for causing a collision with Esteban Gutierrez in the United States Grand Prix.

On the final lap of the race, Gutierrez was attempting to overtake Vergne in the final sector and appeared to be ahead going through Turn 13 when the two cars touched, with Gutierrez briefly sent airborne and pitched in to a spin.

With the incident occurring so late in the race the stewards had to look at it retrospectively and decided that Vergne had been at fault, punishing him with a drive-through penalty imposed after the race, which equates to 20 seconds.

The penalty drops Vergne from 12th place to 16th in the final results.
