Robert Kubica has signed up for the 2014 World Rally Championship (WRC) as a return to Formula One remains unlikely.

After making his WRC debut at the Wales Rally GB last month, Kubica has signed for M-Sport to contest the 2014 season. The move effectively rules out a return to single-seat racing for another year, with Kubica having admitted in November that Formula One looks "nearly impossible" for him at this stage.

Following the signing, M-Sport managing director Malcolm Wilson said he has been keen to sign Kubica for some time.

"Since he burst onto the WRC rally championship scene earlier this year, we have been very keen to have him on board," Wilson told Reuters. "I think that we can expect some great things from him in 2014. You only have to look at the way Robert prepared for the 2013 season to see what it all means to him. He has a desire and a hunger which you don't see in many drivers..."
