Paul di Resta is confident he will be in a position to win a championship outside Formula One next season as he weighs up his opportunities post Force India.

Di Resta and 2013 team-mate Adrian Sutil have lost their drives to Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez this year, but while Sutil has been taken on at Sauber, di Resta has been left without a drive in F1. A return to DTM now looks like his best option after speculation that he would move to IndyCar to take over from his retiring cousin Dario Franchitti at Ganassi came to nothing.

Di Resta is remaining tight lipped about his future, but has been in talks with Mercedes who he won the DTM title with in 2010.

"I'm not in a position to say what I'll be doing next year," he told The Scotsman. "But one thing I know definitely is that I'll be in a competitive car, in a series I know I'll be capable of not only winning races, but also the championship."
