Di Resta 'not finished' with Formula One
Paul di Resta insists a return to Formula One in future is still very much on his agenda despite missing out on a race seat in 2014.
Di Resta has returned to the Mercedes-Benz team he won the 2010 DTM title with after Force India opted for Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg for the new season. Di Resta did not earn a podium during his three seasons in F1 but had his best season in 2013, and is convinced he can forge a path back into the sport despite his absence this year.
"My desire is to be involved in Formula One in some way, shape or form [in the future]," Di Resta told PA Sport. "Staying as actively as you can in the sport is important, and if there is any chance to get back then hopefully that can happen.
"At the moment I'll take it year by year and I'll do what I can to get back in. I certainly don't feel as though the door has closed on me in any way, and I'm not too old to give up. I did enough to show people what I can do, and there may be chances pop up. I'll continue to be as involved as I can over the next year, couple of years."
Di Resta also states there is "nothing yet" in terms of a possible return to F1 as a Mercedes test driver, and insists his immediate concern is being a competitor in touring cars once again.
"I'm massively keen to get myself on and get racing again," said Di Resta. "It will also be quite nice to get back on the podium again and win races. Obviously it's a different challenge. I don't see it as a backward step in any way. It's just different racing, and I'm with good people, a manufacturer I have spent 10 years with. Hopefully I can start off from where I finished in 2010, I'm also three years more mature, so from that point there is no negative."
