No reason to cancel Russian GP - FIA
The FIA currently has no plans to cancel the Russian Grand Prix, despite the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.
The inaugural Russian Grand Prix is set to take place on October 12 in Sochi, but doubt was cast over the future of the race when Moscow annexed Crimea from Ukraine in March. However, FIA president Jean Todt was quoted by Reuters as saying there was currently "nothing that should change the running of the calendar".
The Russian round of the world superbike championship has been cancelled in September because "the current political situation affects the capabilities of a number of key partner companies essential to run the event."
But speaking about the Formula One race, promoter Sergey Vorobyev told Reuters: "I have no doubts the race will go ahead. We have construction being done at a good pace, we have the operational and sporting preparations also being done very extensively. There is no doubt from any point of view that the race will happen."
