Caterham unveils special Kobayashi-styled Seven
Caterham has built a special Kamui Kobayashi-edition Seven road car, complete with styling tweaks from the man himself.
The car is based on the Caterham Seven 250 R, but just ten will be built in Kobayashi-spec and are all set to be sold for ¥6,000,000 ($59,000) in Japan. It is powered by 1.6 Ford Sigma engine, producing 125bhp and capable of 0-62mph in 5.9 seconds as well as a top speed of 112 mph.
The car comes in black with matte black stripes, as specified by the Caterham F1 driver, combined with carbon fibre bodywork infused with a green lacquer. It also sports a No.10 on the nose in line with Kobayashi's car number in Formula One. It is a single seater with an offset roll hoop to match and Caterham is confident it will one day become a "collector's item".
"For me, the Caterham Seven is a pure car; when you drive a Seven it feels like you are driving, not like the car is driving you." Kobayashi said. "In my Caterham F1 car, I have electronics that control everything but to drive the Seven is to truly understand the car and to truly understand the enjoyment of driving. I hope my styling of the Seven adds something special to a car that is already awesome to drive."
