Ricciardo's Red Bull working against him
Daniel Ricciardo was at a loss to explain his lack of pace in Friday practice for the Canadian Grand Prix, saying he felt as if the car was working against him during the two sessions.
Ricciardo finished the second session 12th fastest and was over a second off the pace of team-mate Sebastian Vettel, who finished best of the rest behind the two Mercedes. Ricciardo has been getting the better of his team-mate in recent races, but said he could not explain what had happened this weekend.
"Right now I don't have too many answers," he said. "We've just seen the timesheets and for sure we have some work to do. I know what I feel in the car and I'll give my response to the team. But the answer is that we are still not sure and we'll work it out tonight.
"I wasn't particularly at home with it. You need to be comfortable here jumping off the kerbs, and you need to feel like the car is working with you. Let's say at times I felt it was working a bit against me, so that correlation between me and the car we need to make a little bit easier for tomorrow."
However, Ricciardo is hoping to study Vettel's data to find a quick fix in time for qualifying on Saturday afternoon.
"The positive is that Seb put in a quick one so at least we can see what's going on there and try to see where we are in comparison, where I need to work and where we can get the car right. If he's comfortable it's going to push me, obviously we are a long way off the pace - I don't think it is just as simple as that - but it's for us to understand now. If he's pushing that little bit more then that will push me too."
