Sebastian Vettel says he expects Red Bull's form to continue improving this weekend after recovering from a slow start on Friday to finish sixth in FP2.

Vettel spun coming out of Turn 9 during Friday's morning session, which saw him languishing down in 15th, with team-mate Daniel Ricciardo 13th. But Red Bull's fortunes improved drastically in the afternoon, with both drivers showing improved pace on both the soft and supersoft compounds, a trend Vettel expects will grow as the weather improves this weekend.

"This morning we struggled a little bit too much, this afternoon I think was better," Vettel said. "I think we're seeing people are struggling to get the primes, the harder tyre, to work, it should be a different story tomorrow when it is hotter. We made some progress in the afternoon.

"We are not the favourites going into this weekend, we'd love to be but we're not there yet. If anything the fact that it is our home grand prix is an extra motivation for the team."

Vettel admits he was braced for a frustrating morning session given F1's 11-year absence from Spielberg.

"We haven't been here for a long time so we didn't really expect anything. We knew it would be tough. We struggled more than we thought, this afternoon was a little bit more in our ballpark."

Vettel admits he had to take evasive action to stay out of the wall in FP1.

"It wasn't planned but obviously once I found myself in the spin I tried to do everything I could not to hit the wall, which worked."
