Wolff 'massively disappointed' after engine issue
Susie Wolff was left "massively disappointed" after her on-track debut at a grand prix weekend was limited to just four laps of the Silverstone circuit.
Wolff's Williams suffered an engine issue during first practice for the British Grand Prix, forcing her to park the car at the side of the track after just 20 minutes of running. She said the issue was terminal and was on an engine that was close to the end of its life.
"It's massively disappointing," she said. "On the one side it was such a good build up to this weekend, I'd done so much hard work and preparation to get ready for this day and I knew exactly what I had to do on every lap out there. It felt good even on the outlap, I'd done the Young Driver Test here last year so I had a good feeling anyway of this track in an F1 car and I love this track.
"My initial feeling was really good and the first run was just about building up slowly. The wind was quite strong out there so I was told to take it easy and build it up lap by lap and I had two more runs left to go for it a bit more, but that's racing."
Wolff said she is now fully focused on the German Grand Prix in two weeks when she will take part in another FP1 session for Williams.
"I've known it can be like that over the years, with massive ups and massive downs as well. Obviously I'm very disappointed but I've still got Hockenheim, and I've got to go out in Hockenheim and show what I can do because I didn't get a chance to do that today. That's disappointing but on the positive side I've still got one more shot at it. I'll keep my head up high and look forward to it."
