Bottas targets a victory after Silverstone podium
Valtteri Bottas thinks the next step for Williams has to be challenging Mercedes for race victories after he secured a career-best second at the British Grand Prix.
A disastrous qualifying meant Bottas started down in 16th but a stunning charge through the field, with some good overtaking moves along the way, brought him back into third. The Mercedes out in front were never going to be challenged until Nico Rosberg's retirement but Bottas says the result shows Williams is hot on the its tail.
"We are on the right way, and as I said on the team radio, we have one step more to go. The team has done such a good job to see how quick the car is. It's behaving really well, it was a pleasure to drive it. Still Mercedes is in front but we are going in the right way."
Team-mate Felipe Massa was competing in his 200th grand prix but it ended after just four corners, as the Brazilian was caught up in Kimi Raikkonen's first-lap crash, but Bottas says he was relieved he could make amends for the team.
"There was some good stuff going, I really enjoyed it. The plan was to come as high as possible, as high as the pace of the car is giving. As a team we made the most out of it. I have to say I feel sorry for Felipe - his 200th grand prix, a shame it ended like this."
