Coloni driver Davide Rigon has suffered multiple leg fractures following an accident in the GP2 sprint race in Turkey.

Rigon was defending from Julian Leal when the Rapax driver ran in to the back of him and pitched his car in to the pit wall at high speed. It was clear at the time that Rigon was in pain as he perched himself on top of his car, and it was later confirmed that he has suffered multiple fractures of the tibia and fibula in his left leg .

Team principal Paolo Coloni said after the race that it was a "quite serious" break, and that Rigon would be having surgery today (Monday).

"We are quite shocked because Davide is very popular with everyone in the team, and he is a very experienced driver. He had the Ferrari doctor with him immediately, and the damage is quite serious. He is already booked in for surgery tomorrow morning, and we are all concentrating on that and hoping for good success. All of our thoughts are with Davide, and hopefully we will get some good news soon."

Leal was penalised for his part in the incident, being handed a ten place grid penalty for the feature race in Barcelona.
