Jaime Alguersuari has joined BBC Radio 5 Live as an expert summariser for the 2012 season.

Having lost his Toro Rosso seat at the end of the 2011 season, Alguersuari said he was committing himself fully to being ready for any further Formula One opportunities. With David Croft and Anthony Davidson having left the BBC to join Sky on its television coverage, Alguersuari will now work alongside James Allen at every race and said he was looking forward to his new role.

"It will be interesting to look at the action from a different angle and bring that excitement and insight to listeners," Alguersuari said. "It promises to be an exciting season and I can't wait for it to start."

BBC Radio 5 live controller Adrian van Klaveren said he was excited by the addition and was aware it could lose Alguersuari to one of the teams this year.

"We're delighted to have Jaime on board," he said. "His engaging personality makes him a great addition to 5 live for the 2012 F1 season. We are going to make the most of Jaime's first-hand experience right now knowing he could well be driving for one of the teams again in the near future."
