Davidson to race at Le Mans with Peugeot

Ex-F1 driver Anthony Davidson will race for Peugeot at the Le Mans 24 Hours and the Sebring 12 Hours this year.

Last month he admitted that his chances of making an F1 comeback in 2010 were slim and that he was looking at other opportunities. Peugeot won Le Mans in 2009 and Davidson will share one of its cars with former F1 drivers Alex Wurz and Marc Gene this year. Peugeot admitted it had been considering World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb as a potential candidate, but was worried preparation for the endurance race would clash with his WRC commitments.

"We had a number of options for this car, including Sebastien Loeb," explained Peugeot Sport boss Olivier Quesnel. "He has reached a sufficiently high standard to be considered as a potential team member and we waited until the Swedish Rally before we took any decision. Every driver has to be 100% committed to our programme and it eventually became clear than Sebastien's schedule would be too tight. Anthony Davidson was available, he is quick, enthusiastic and very happy to be part of Team Peugeot Total."

Ahead of Le Mans, Davidson will compete in the first round of the American Le Mans Series in Sebring alongside Wurz and Gene. Peugeot will also field a second car at both events piloted by ex-F1 drivers Sebastien Bourdais and Pedro Lamy as well as experienced sports car racer Nicolas Minassian.

Davidson has also tested an Audi DTM car recently amid rumours he might combine a campaign in that series with his BBC Radio 5 Live F1 commentating duties.
