Ma Qing Hua is set to drive for HRT in place of Narain Karthikeyan for the first practice session of the United States Grand Prix.

It will be the fourth time that Ma has driven for the Spanish team in free practice this season, having also made appearances in Italy, Singapore and Abu Dhabi. Ma said he understood the trust HRT was putting in him by giving him track time at a new circuit, but was looking forward to the challenge.

"It's fantastic to be able to step back into the car for a free practice session and to do so at a new circuit for every team and driver makes it even more special and fun," said Ma. "Being the first out on track to help the team is a great responsibility and I want to thank them again for the opportunity they're giving me.

"Little by little I'm racking up more miles and gaining necessary experience to grow as a driver, and the continuity I'm getting is also helping me to help my confidence. Last week I was in Shanghai and received a lot of support from my country which makes me work even harder to be prepared for any challenge."

The decision to allow Ma to drive leaves Karthikeyan with just two practice session to learn the Austin track.
