Kobayashi unfazed by turn one at COTA

Kamui Kobayashi insists there is "nothing special" about turn one at the new Circuit of the Americas.

With Formula One making its first visit to the new track in Austin for the United States Grand Prix, a lot of interest has been surrounding the elevated turn one which has a blind apex. Kobayashi, however, when asked for his thoughts about the corner simply replied: "Nothing.

"I think the same thing is in Spa," he said. "In Spa it is like [flat], if you make it like this it is more higher. For me it is nothing, you know? Just a little bit higher uphill, just braking, so I think nothing special for me, really.

"In Portugal there's a circuit where we did one test in Formula One - Portimao - this is higher uphill I think. When I look; OK for the journalists it's very exciting, but not me. More exciting ones like Spa and Portimao; Portimao was terrible in the wet. When you're going downhill you have wheelspin. Really. In the wet. Every lap I nearly cried."

With his own future with Sauber uncertain, Kobayashi said his situation hasn't changed but hinted that he could be able to bring money to the team if required.

"I have nothing to say. I'm just focused on the two races and we'll just see if we can announce something or not, at the moment I have no idea. I try to do my job for the last two races and I think it's not really a worry to my future, I just focus on my job and I think it's very important to finish in good shape.

"I think the situation is better than before. Money-wise and everything it's getting better, so we'll see."
