Red Bull changes fuelling procedure after Abu Dhabi

Red Bull has introduced a new set of procedures and checks to ensure it does not suffer a repeat of Sebastian Vettel's Abu Dhabi fuelling issues.

Vettel was excluded from the qualifying results at Yas Marina after he stopped on track and without the necessary one litre of fuel for an FIA sample. At the time the team suspected a fuel flow problem, but after launching a full investigation into the incident it now believes the car was simply underfuelled.

"We've certainly revised our procedures and we've been working with Renault to understand why the fuel wasn't in the car that was expected to be in there and I think there were a whole bunch of tolerances that quite frankly we were unlucky with at the end of the day," team principal Christian Horner said. "We need to have learnt from it, there's been a big review undertaken and hopefully as a result of that it won't happen again."

The mistake resulted in Vettel starting from the pit lane, forcing him to work his way through the pack to eventually finish on the podium. Horner said the team had made changes to its fuelling procedures to rule out a repeat this weekend.

"There will be some procedural changes, checks, counter-checks and re-checks," he said. "The procedure hadn't really changed for four or five years because it's worked and it's established. It just demonstrates that when you are working on the edge the margins are very fine."
