HRT appears set to close after failing to find a buyer in time to make the FIA's 2013 entry list.

Having been put up for sale by owners Thesan Capital in early November, HRT was able to defer it's initial €500,000 entry fee for the 2013 season as it tried to find a buyer before the November 30 entry deadline. Having failed to do so and now been left off the FIA list of entrants for next season, it all but confirms the team's demise.

HRT has been struggling financially throughout its time in the sport, having originally been entered as Campos Meta but then run by the Carabante family before being sold to Thesan Capital in July 2011. Despite never completing a full pre-season schedule with its car, the team finished 11th in the constructors' championship in both 2010 and 2011 before finishing 12th this season.

The final two grans prix weekends have seen the team running a reduced programme in practice due to a lack of funds and spare parts, though both cars finished both races.

Thesan Capital claimed that it was "currently in talks with a number of groups" when it announced the team was for sale and hoped to conclude a deal with new owners "in the upcoming weeks", but those attempts appear to have failed.

While the ownership of various teams has changed in recent years, the last team to close down was Super Aguri in 2008 after just four races of its third season in the sport; HRT has participated in three full seasons.
