Vettel and Alonso partnership ruled out by Domenicali

Stefano Domenicali has ruled out the possibility of Sebastian Vettel partnering Fernando Alonso at Ferrari in the near future.

Rumours have been ongoing for some time that Vettel has signed a pre-contract agreement to drive for Ferrari from 2014, with Luca di Montezemolo's comments that he would choose Vettel to replace Alonso adding to the speculation. However, with Montezemolo also saying that "I don't want two roosters in the hen-house" Domenicali insisted the pair wouldn't be put together any time soon.

"Could Vettel and Alonso one day be part of a dream team?" Domenicali asked. "I think our President has already commented on this subject several times: a dream team is fantastic if it is correctly managed, but at the moment we are not looking at that, because we want to ensure the team is as well balanced as possible. You have to be very careful, not just in Formula 1, but in sport in general, because sometimes, putting together all the Number Ones can lead to more negatives than positives."

Domenicali also backed Alonso to respond to criticism from Helmut Marko on the track, after Red Bull's advisor accused him of being too involved in politics at the end of 2012.

"As usual, there are people who try and stir up the politics, believing they will provoke a reaction, but I am deaf to these things and I believe Fernando is totally focused on his performance, while I can assure you that the team will give its answer on the track, with deeds not words."
