Rory Byrne, the South African designer whose cars helped Michael Schumacher secure seven Formula One drivers' titles with Benetton and Ferrari, is helping Ferrari with the development of the team's car for 2014.

Byrne, 69, was seen at the launch of the 2013 F138 and on Sunday Ferrari confirmed he was assisting with the replacement of the Enzo road car but also giving "operational support" on the 2014 F1 car.

An earlier report in Germany's Auto Motor und Sport quoted Byrne as saying he was "working full steam" on the car with the F138 looking like "child's play" in comparison to it.

Byrne retired from full-time design work at the end of 2006 when Schumacher retired but has been involved as a consultant in various Ferrari projects.
