Ferrari hopeful of new Sauber deal

Ferrari is hopeful of securing a new deal to supply engines to Sauber from next season onwards, according to Stefano Domenicali.

Ahead of the new engine regulations in 2014 Ferrari only has Marussia signed up as a customer for next season at present. While Ferrari has supplied Sauber with engines for the last four seasons, no deal is currently in place beyond the end of this year following uncertainty over Sauber's financial future but Domenicali said all the signs for extending the partnership have been positive.

"With regards to the second supplier things are progressing very well," Domenicali said. "We want to keep working with Sauber and hopefully very soon we will formally clarify the situation with them. That's the intention."

Ferrari is the only engine manufacturer not to release any images or audio of its 2014 engine so far, but Domenicali said there were no concerns over the progress of its development.

"On the engine side we believe that what's been put out from our competitors is an interesting marketing exercise, but I can guarantee to you that the pictures that we've seen are not the pictures of the engine that will be on the cars next year. If you want we can bet!

"We are going ahead with our programme and it's tight for everyone. From the engineering point of view it is really a great challenge, and so that is the approach that our people at Maranello are having with this project."
