Ferrari set for 2014 switch
Ferrari will switch its full focus on to its 2014 car at the end of September, according to team principal Stefano Domenicali.
The new 1.6-litre V6 engines with enhanced energy recovery systems allied to further changes to the technical regulations means the 2014 cars will differ markedly from the current chassis. Lotus team principal Eric Boullier believes only Red Bull will be able to continue developing its 2013 car until the end of the season and Domenicali admitted Ferrari was getting close to its switching point.
"September is the month where we will basically start to shift, as the 2014 project is very complex," Domenicali told the official Formula One website. "At the end of September we will then basically switch everyone, depending, of course, on how the situation is with the championship."
Domenicali also predicted a large shake-up of the pecking order as a result of the new regulations.
"All the top teams realize that if they want to be a force in 2014, then they have to start very quickly to switch resources, as it is a very complex matter - especially for the big teams. My guess is that we might see huge surprises next season in terms of the pecking order. In my view - and as far as I remember - the changes that we are facing are the biggest changes we have ever had in Formula One. It is really important to get it right, otherwise you're lost. "
