      Fer close to Rangers return

      QPR manager Chris Ramsey will make a late decision on whether to risk Leroy Fer for Saturday's crucial match at home to West Ham.

      Fer is close to overcoming a knee injury that has kept him out since February, while Yun Suk-young is also available having recovered from concussion.

      Richard Dunne is fit again after returning from a knee injury but Rio Ferdinand Eduardo Vargas and Alejandro Faurlin remain sidelined.

      Ramsey believes three wins in the last five games will be enough to secure Barclays Premier League survival this season.

      Rangers sit second bottom of the table and two points adrift of safety.

      Three points looks essential against the Hammers given QPR's next two matches are away to Manchester City and Liverpool, before they finish against Newcastle and Leicester.

      "If you win three games you're probably going to stay up," Ramsey said.

      "As long as we're above the line come the end of May we'll be happy.

      "I just care if we win. I just take care of our own game. If we don't get good results it doesn't matter what the others do.

      "We know the enormity of the task ahead but you can only plan and prepare as best you can and what happens, happens.

      "We understand there is pressure in these last few games.

      "I can't say I don't feel pressure but it depends on how you deal with it."

      West Ham will be unable to welcome back any of their injured players.

      Sam Allardyce's Hammers have won just once in their last 12 games and are still without James Tomkins (shoulder), Andy Carroll (knee) and Diafra Sakho (thigh).

      Meanwhile, a calf injury picked up by full-back Guy Demel has also left Allardyce short of options in defence.

      Allardyce wants his players to match the fight shown by the clubs threatened with relegation.

      With both Rangers and Burnley coming up against the Hammers in the next week, Allardyce's side could yet have a big say on which teams fall into the Sky Bet Championship at the end of the season.

      Having started the season in impressive style, the Hammers now sit 10th and a top-half finish is under threat - with Allardyce issuing a rally cry and using a recent defeat at struggling Leicester as an example of what can happen if his team are not at the races.

      "Coming up is QPR away, another local derby, then Burnley at home," he said.

      "They are fighting for their lives and we experienced that at Leicester. We played extremely well at Leicester and shouldn't have lost the game but Leicester are fighting for their lives so we have to match the fight that QPR have and Burnley will have here.

      "The players have to realise they are not on the beach yet - far from it. The focus should be that we want to finish on a high.

      "People think we're having a bad season because our bad run is coming at the end of the season. Finishing the season well gives everyone a high going into the summer.

      "We wanted to finish with more points than we've ever managed and we should've achieved that a long time ago.

      "After Christmas we were in a good position and we thought we might be able achieve a bit more than that. But we've made life difficult for ourselves."

      QPR held by Hammers

      Charlie Austin missed a first-half penalty as QPR's survival hopes were left hanging by a thread after they were held to a goalless draw by West Ham.

      Both teams had chances to take all three points at Loftus Road but the best fell to Austin when James Collins handled in the area but the striker's spot-kick was saved by Adrian's legs.

      Richard Dunne also had a header ruled out in the second period as Rangers remained 19th in the table and slipped four points adrift of safety.

      Rangers have now won only once in the nine games since Chris Ramsey was appointed until the end of the campaign in February and this was a missed opportunity, particularly given their next two fixtures are away to Liverpool and Manchester City.

      It was also a chance to capitalise on the dismal form of their opponents.

      West Ham have only won twice in the league in 2015 and if Sam Allardyce is to leave the club in the summer, this performance will have done little to persuade the Upton Park ownership to change their minds.

      QPR could have been ahead within a minute after Matt Phillips slid Sandro into the penalty area but the midfielder's drilled shot was saved by Adrian at the near post.

      Moments later, Reece Burke, an 18-year-old graduate of the Hammers youth academy, almost enjoyed a dream start on his Premier League debut but his header was cleared off the line by Nedum Onuoha.

      Both sides struggled to establish any rhythm in a disappointing first half but Rangers had the best chance to break the deadlock in the 22nd minute when referee Mike Jones pointed to the spot.

      Collins was the offender, raising his hand to block Bobby Zamora's heavy touch, but Austin failed to convert as he fired hard and down the middle but only into the legs of Adrian.

      The second half began just as the first had, with a Rangers chance, but Zamora could only side-foot his close-range range volley into the hands of Adrian.

      West Ham's greatest threat came from set-pieces and Aaron Cresswell thought he had scored with a whipped free-kick from 25 yards but Rob Green did brilliantly to tip the ball onto the bar.

      Zamora went close again shortly before the hour when he outmuscled Burke to go clear but with only the keeper to beat, the striker blazed over.

      Rangers looked the more likely to grab a winner in the latter stages and with 15 minutes to go they thought they had it, as a desperate scramble saw Dunne head home but the goal was disallowed for a foul by Steven Caulker.

      The home side pushed forward in search of a winner in the final 10 minutes but the best chance fell to West Ham on the break as Enner Valencia teed up Cheikhou Kouyate but he shot over from eight yards out.

      Phillips almost made himself a hero in injury-time but Adrian palmed the midfielder's shot over to leave Rangers needing snookers in the race to avoid the drop.
