Juventus director general Beppe Marotta believes the club are making good progress in their attempts to sign Tottenham target Giuseppe Rossi from Villarreal.

Juve are targeting a marquee signing this summer and there had been indications they were closing in on a deal for Sergio Aguero, but Atletico Madrid are said to have rejected a €35 million bid and the player's father recently suggested his son would be staying put.

Asked about Rossi, Marotta told tuttojuve: "We're getting there, it's true, but we are also tracking other players."

He added: "We are working without haste, but are focused on many objectives."

Italy international Rossi, 24, is said to be available for around €30 million but Felipe Melo could be involved in a part-exchange deal.

Juve president Andrea Agnelli had earlier revealed their alternative options include Alexis Sanchez and Gonzalo Higuain.

"We know what we want and what we are looking for on the market," Agnelli said. "We want players of great quality, but Juventus won't take part in bidding wars. We will buy players at the right price.

"There are many players that we like, such as Sanchez and Higuain, but they have to be on our terms."
