New Liverpool signing Charlie Adam has confessed he does not even know if he will be a first-team regular after making a £7 million move from Blackpool.

Adam finally sealed his summer switch to Liverpool last week, following Jordan Henderson through the Anfield entrance door. Another big money capture is expected to follow, with Stewart Downing currently completing a deal on Merseyside.

Kenny Dalglish's three top summer targets, all midfielders, have raised questions over how the Reds will line up for their first Premier League fixture of the season, which comes against Sunderland. Steven Gerrard, Raul Meireles, Lucas Leiva, Alberto Aquilani, Jay Spearing, Joe Cole and Maxi Rodriguez are all recognised midfield players, while Dirk Kuyt has spent much of his Liverpool career on the right wing.

It is believed Dalglish will opt for a central three, involving Henderson, Adam and Gerrard, but that is one of many options open to the Liverpool manager.

Certainly Adam did his cause no harm on debut, producing an encouraging performance in the 4-3 friendly win against Guandong Sunray Cave, but he is expecting a fight for a starting jersey come the start of the domestic season.

"The manager has said it's about working hard in training and I'll stick by that," Adam told a bustling room of journalists during a Friday press conference.

"I'll play anywhere for this club, it's an honour to be here and work with the lads that are here. It's going to be difficult to get into the team, but if you work hard and the opportunity comes, I've got to take it."
