Denilson could be set to leave Arsenal following reports the midfielder will return to Sao Paulo.

ESPN Brazil understands Denilson's former side could be about to offer the 23-year-old a way out of Emirates Stadium via a season-long loan.

Denilson has struggled to fulfil his potential at Arsenal since joining the club for £3.5 million in 2006.

The Brazilian has made no secret of his wish for a summer exit after revealing he spoke with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger about his future at the end of last season.

He said: "I've simply been to see Arsene Wenger and told him how I felt - and he has agreed to let me go. This has been the worst season of my life and I am so upset, so frustrated. I am a winner and I came here to win trophies but I've been here for five years and won nothing."

Denilson was reported to have stormed down the tunnel just 20 minutes after coming on as a substitute during Arsenal's 4-0 pre-season friendly win over a Malaysia XI this week.
