Valencia continue mixed messages over Mata

Valencia president Manuel Llorente has insisted that the club will not consider any offers for young attacking star Juan Mata, just days after manager Unai Emery hinted the Spanish side could be tempted by a large offer.

Mata, 23, was linked with a host of European clubs after a starring performance at the European Under-21 Championship with Spain, and Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester City were all credited with an interest.

With Valencia coach Emery claiming the club's debts could mean they have to consider offers, it seemed like the winger could be sold. However, despite constant speculation over his future at La Mestalla, Llorente claims Mata will not be leaving.

"The decision is clear and money will not change our position," Llorente told Superdeporte. "Valencia will not sell to any club that wants to buy Mata."

Arsenal, meanwhile, are ready to focus all their efforts on bringing a defender to the club, with Phil Jagielka still a big target for Arsene Wenger.
