Tottenham Hotspur are hopeful Rafael van der Vaart will be fit for the club's Premier League opener against Everton next weekend.

Van der Vaart sustained an ankle injury in Tottenham's 3-2 pre-season friendly win over Brighton and has been ruled out of Saturday's final warm-up against Athletic Bilbao.

With no new signings bolstering the Spurs attack, Van der Vaart will once again be relied upon for a touch of class in the final third this season, and Spurs are giving him every chance to face Everton.

"We'll keep our fingers crossed for next week," Kevin Bond, Tottenham's assistant manager, told the Daily Telegraph.

Spurs meet Everton at White Hart Lane on August 13 before travelling to Hearts for the first leg of their Europa League tie five days later.
