Werder Bremen have revealed they will consider "serious offers" for reported Arsenal target Per Mertesacker.

Arsenal are still yet to sign a centre-back this summer, despite being linked with Everton's Phil Jagielka, Blackburn's Christopher Samba, Bolton's Gary Cahill and Mertesacker.

On Saturday, Gunners boss Wenger stated he hopes to make a signing of "super quality" potentially "next week". And Germany international Mertesacker could be a tempting target, with the defender having entered the final year of his contract.

Werder general manager Klaus Allofs said in the People: "We are willing to discuss a transfer for Per. We have promised him we will listen to serious offers."
