Theo Walcott emerged from his starring role in Arsenal's 1-0 win over Udinese to declare that he wants to be the club's main striker.

Walcott made his first start of the season a telling one with the only goal of the game - a well-taken volley - in Arsenal's Champions League qualifier.

The England international produced a bright display, although his final ball was lacking on occasions, and was denied a second goal by a fine save from Samir Handanovic.

Walcott has been primarily deployed as a winger, but manager Arsene Wenger has said in the past that he sees a lot of Gunners legend Thierry Henry in the player and the 22-year-old has suggested he is ready to take on a central attacking role for Arsenal.

"That's where I want to be this season, I want to get more goals," Walcott said. "Maybe the boss will play me up front, who knows?

"I'm still coming back from my injury. Their goalkeeper has made an absolutely fantastic save, and before that I rushed a bit when trying to chip the keeper, but that will come. It's early days, it's my first 90 minutes and I'm very happy with the result."
