Emmanuel Eboue claims that Tottenham Hotspur tried to sign him before he completed a move from Arsenal to Galatasaray for a reported fee of £4 million.

The 28-year-old Ivory Coast international became the latest first-team player to exit the Gunners - whose fans are becoming increasingly disgruntled at the loss of senior figures - when he penned a four-year deal with the Turkish giants, following Gael Clichy, Cesc Fabregas and Denilson out of the Emirates.

The full-back made 214 appearances for Arsenal after joining the club in 2005 - but, according to Eboue, that did not deter Harry Redknapp, boss of the Gunners' arch-rivals Spurs, from attempting to hijack his transfer.

"Before I went to Galatasaray, I had many contacts - from Tottenham and many other clubs in Europe," Eboue said to Sky Sports News.

Robbie Keane's move to LA Galaxy has freed up some cash at White Hart Lane, and Redknapp is thought to be keen to bring in a right-back to compete with Alan Hutton, Vedran Corluka and Kyle Walker, who could be set for a loan move away from the club.

Neither Hutton nor Corluka managed to nail down the position last season, starting 19 and 13 Premier League games respectively, while Walker was at Aston Villa on a short-term deal.
