England legend David Beckham has lavished praise on his new Los Angeles Galaxy team-mate Robbie Keane.

Keane completed a £3.5 million switch from Tottenham Hotspur to the MLS side earlier this week, penning a two-year deal worth around $9.75m.

And Beckham has backed the Republic of Ireland international to recapture the form that saw him score 107 goals in his first spell in a Tottenham shirt.

"We welcome Robbie with open arms - we know he is going to score goals," Beckham said. "He's scored goals everywhere. He's a player who's played for the likes of Inter Milan, Liverpool, Tottenham - and got all those caps for Ireland. So we've got a great young player and that's exciting."

Keane's second period at White Hart Lane was less successful, and he was farmed out on loan to relegated West Ham United last season.
