Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas concedes that Didier Drogba's future is up in the air as the wrangle over his new contract at Stamford Bridge continues.

Drogba's current deal expires at the end of the season and, after being presented with a one-year extension, he returned with a counter-offer, the details of which are unknown.

And Villas-Boas, who introduced Drogba off the bench as Chelsea beat West Brom 2-1 on Saturday, admits negotiations with the Ivory Coast striker have stalled.

"I don't know what is happening," the Portuguese told the Daily Star on Sunday. "Didier knows about our offers and he has made a counter-offer and we are evaluating some things. I cannot be precise on whether he wants a longer deal than offered."

Drogba's future at Chelsea has been called into question following the arrival of 18-year-old striker Romelu Lukaku from Anderlecht.
