Andre Villas-Boas gave an optimistic bulletin on Petr Cech's fitness after the Chelsea goalkeeper was taken to hospital during the Carling Cup win over Fulham on Wednesday.

Cech was checked over by medics after being concussed in a collision with Fulham striker Orlando Sa, which forced Ross Turnbull into the action as the Blues won on penalties at Stamford Bridge following a 0-0 draw at the end of 120 minutes.

"Petr has been taken for a scan at the hospital - but he is OK," Villas-Boas said. "He felt a bit dizzy at half-time and we decided it was better not to take a risk. I expect him to play on Saturday."

The Czech Republic shot-stopper wears protective headgear in all matches, having suffered a fractured skull in a coming together with Stephen Hunt at Reading five years ago.

Daniel Sturridge was also injured when he picked up a knock netting a disallowed goal shortly before the interval - but Villas-Boas expects to have the young striker back in action soon. "The ligaments are okay," he said. "If he misses one (game), it won't be more than that."
