Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone will have surgery on his ankle, manager Harry Redknapp has confirmed.

Huddlestone has not featured for Spurs since the 5-1 defeat to Manchester City on August 28 and Redknapp said he will go under the knife on Monday.

The central midfielder missed five months last season, between November and April, after a first ankle operation.

Redknapp said: "He needs another operation. He's already had one but there is still a problem with him. It's a blow. He will be out for a while."

Huddlestone has become an important player for Spurs since joining from Derby in 2005 and captained the side on several occasions last season. Sandro and Scott Parker, an August signing from West Ham, will be expected to provide a defensive presence in midfield in the absence of Huddlestone.
