Former Tottenham goalkeeper Ian Walker has told ESPNsoccernet that he expects out-of-favour shot-stopper Heurelho Gomes to leave the north London club in the January transfer window.

Having been No. 1 last season, Gomes is third-choice behind summer signing Brad Friedel and Carlo Cudicini after making some high-profile errors, and Walker says he does not expect the Brazilian to find himself back in the side any time soon.

''It looks like he'll probably be off. Brad [Friedel] is very consistent, unless he gets an injury, I can't see him being changed over.'' Walker told ESPNsoccernet. "If it were me, I'd be looking to move and re-establish myself somewhere else. I think Gomes is a good goalkeeper, he's just been a little inconsistent.''

Walker, who was No. 1 at Spurs for five seasons, claims that Harry Redknapp has a hard job on his hands keeping three goalkeepers of such class happy. "I think that's the problem with having three goalkeepers, I know they've got a lot of games and competitions, but goalkeeping positions rarely change unless you have a loss of form or injuries," Walker said.

Brad Friedel has played every minute of Spurs' six Premier League games so far this season, while Gomes has only played in one Europa League and League Cup game.

"To keep three very happy is very difficult,'' Walker added. ''Carlo [Cudicini] seems to be happy with his role, Gomes obviously isn't. I think from a goalkeeper's perspective, you want to be playing and the young ones can get on loan, but the more experienced ones want to play.''

Walker, who is now managing Blue Square North side Bishop Stortford, has taken young Tottenham goalkeeper Jordan Archer on-loan after a recommendation from coach Tony Parks and thinks that his former club will be looking to add more players when the window reopens.

Redknapp tried to sign Bolton centre-back Gary Cahill this summer, but the move broke down over the transfer fee and Walker believes that he will primarily be looking to strengthen the defence in January.

''I think they'll try and get a centre half in, Ledley King plays now and again when he can and still does a great job, but I think he will be looking to strengthen there,'' Walker said.
