Love III wants birdie blitz at Medinah

Davis Love III has spoken of his desire to turn Medinah into a birdie fest when the Ryder Cup hits the Chicago venue in 2012.
As captain of the USA team, Love III has the ability to set the course up however he sees fit. He feels that with so many Europeans plying their trade on the PGA Tour, it is difficult to tailor the course to penalise the visitors.
However, he does believe that his players are happiest when allowed to take risks and fire at the pins - which will see the rough cut extremely low.
"I am trying to figure out if there is a way to set it up so we have a slight edge," Love III told Sky Sports News. "The Europeans, they play so many events over here and are so used to big, long courses now. They have done well on all sorts of courses so I don't know if there is a way to set it up to give us an advantage. I think the way you set it up is the best for everybody, the fairest set up.
"I tend to feel that the shorter the rough, the more even it is rather than 'this guy got a good lie, that guy got a bad lie'.
"We want to keep it as fair as possible and I think birdies are to our advantage. The more birdies that are out there, our powerful hitters and biride-maching guys that shoot 25-under at tournaments [will be happier].
"We need to give them a chance to play, rather than an even-par US Open slugfest."
