Chelsea 'tried to sign Eto'o'

Samuel Eto'o has confessed that Chelsea were interested in signing him when Claudio Ranieri was manager of the club between 2000 and 2004.
Eto'o left Inter, where Ranieri has now taken over as manager, in order to join Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala but suggests that he would be interested in working with the Italian in future.
"He wanted me at Chelsea and at Juve," Eto'o said. "It's a pity that I have not been able to work with him yet. Ranieri is a great coach and I'm happy that Inter chose him. I'm certain he will do well at Inter."
Chelsea were thought to be interested in Eto'o during his time with Spanish giants Barcelona but, after joining the Catalan side in 2004, he stayed until 2009 when he moved to Inter Milan, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic moving in the opposite direction.
