Harry Redknapp has confirmed Ledley King faces another spell on the sidelines after he had to be substituted during the first half of Tottenham's 2-2 draw with Newcastle.

King, who has long suffered with injury problems, lasted half an hour at St James' Park before being replaced by Sebastien Bassong. Without the former England international in defence, Spurs conceded twice as Newcastle equalised through Demba Ba and Shola Ameobi.

Redknapp revealed in his post-match interview that King, who barely ever trains in order to lighten the pressure on his body, has picked up an abductor muscle injury and now faces several weeks on the sidelines.

"He is just a fantastic player, but his knee blows up like a balloon every time he plays, so he can't train," Redknapp explained.

"He plays on Saturday and he comes out the following Friday and has a little jog around for five minutes and then plays on a Saturday, so really his body is nowhere near fit.

"It can't be, so he is always open to pulling muscles, getting strains, and that's what has happened today.''
